MBFWA: Ellery

This time last year I was standing backstage at the Swarovski fashion show. As the lights began to dim and the exquisitely dressed models lined up, everyone was pumped. 'This is my career', I said to myself, 'next year I will be here as a guest.'

Fast forward a year and I am a fully media accredited fashion blogger with a jam-packed schedule and 14 show invites. Score!

Anyway, that's enough of that drivel... The opening show of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia was 'Ellery'. Having always been an avid fan of her classic flare, this show was one I was really looking forward to.

As the music began to pump, ballerinas from the Australian National Ballet began to twirl gracefully in flicks of light, setting an undeniably theatrical mood for this innovative collection.
The ruling 70s trend was fast-forward, majorly, into the space-age. Signiture Ellery flares futurised off-the-shoulder blouses in soft, white silks. Paired with juxtaposing relaxed sports-luxe pants.
Over sized tops were dotted with structural detailing; making the movement of the pieces incredibly intricate. Kimono shaped tees were over sized to the max and tiered diagonally in layers, often with a rigid-boxy shirt layered over, highlighting the garments fluidity.
Ellery kept the palette minimalist for most garments and let the magic lie in the textures. Lace and faux fur together? Genius!
The fludity of movement and the detailed shapes will make minimalists from all over the world stand up and applaud.
Ellery remained true to her roots and presented pieces that were classic to her namesake. Double breasted trench dresses were dotted with oversize buttons and had that strange, juxtaposing movement that suggests rigidity and fluidity at the same time.
What was very appealing about the collection was its unusual layering of lengths, with boxy tee-crops layered over high neck, long sleeve shirts and the classic skirts over pants combo.
And then there was the incredibly innovative: the almost-tin foiled textured trench that looks like a fashionable love-child of Burberry and The Jetsons. Gemma Ward made her much coveted return to MBFWA and lead the finale walk. The theatrically reached an incredible climax and large pieces of glitter began to fall from the ceiling. Kym Ellery ran a lap down the catwalk to the audiences standing ovvation, proving once again she's produced a winning collection.

Out and About
What do you do at fashion week when you're not watching the collections? Network of course. And that's exactly what I did...
I chatted to the lovely super-blogger Sara Donaldson (aka Harper & Harley) who was sweet enough to share her advice on succeeding in the blogging world. She was also in the process of filming series 2 of the TV show 'Fashion Bloggers'- if you haven't watched it, it's awesome!
I had a Stenmark twins sandwich (tasty!)

I met the original Bachelor Tim Robards, who was as charming as he seems on TV.
Had a laugh with the bubbly Anna Heinrich about her time on 'I'm a Celebrity'. Then met blogger and journalist Kate Waterhouse. Both of the seemed eager to take a peek at 'The Daily Luxe.' If you're reading this: was lovely meeting you!

What I Wore
As I came down the stairs into Carriageworks i actally got papped by street style photographers! Ha- I was shocked to say the least, but, I'm not gonna lie, I (guiltily) enjoyed it!
